I was not the fastest runner.

But back in the days when I was a football referee, officiating in the professional game up to the Championship, I could always pass my fitness test (when I wasn’t injured!)

During training I ensured I would hit each marker within the time needed, and I would just be consistent with each little goal during the test.

Providing I went through each little point at my consistent pace, I was guaranteed to pass.

Some people would do it quicker, and fair play to them…but there was no extra points for that. The goal was to complete the fitness test. Friends knew that if they ran with me at my consistent pace, they would pass.

There’s a phrase that gets thrown around that ‘Success Loves Speed’. Indeed it does, and so do the people who say it.

But you know what else success loves?

Consistency.

If you’re not the fastest, and you watch with admiration at others that pass you by, it’s important to ask yourself “could I do more?” and check-in to consider “how much faster can I go and am I prepared to go within my other commitments?” - and if you’re happy that you’re doing what you can then the next thing to do is ensure you’re doing it consistently as then you can be successful too.

Why? Because Success Loves Consistency.

As always I would be happy to hear your thoughts…
